Giving. Living in Abundance. Jn. 10:10b. Feb. 2015

In Jn. 10:10b Jesus Christ gave us a revelation: He said he has come that we might have life and that we might have life more abundantly. Believers are to live a life of sufficiency (11Cor.8:9). Our portion in redemption is to live a life of prosperity where, among other things, money and material provisions would no longer pose an existential threat to us and to our families.

Friend, Many desire affluence; many desire to drive the best of cars in town and live in the best of choice places in the neighborhood. There are those who dream and desire to build the best of churches and do what nobody has ever done before for God if only they would have the means; money. Those are dreams. The reality is that our attitudes/actions today will definitely determine the financial heights we would attain tomorrow.

There is a hidden principle in the scripture (Lk. 6:38) which I rather refer to as the principle of Giving. I have discovered that this Biblical principle is literally, as ruthlessly factual and utterly predictable even as the physical law of gravity. The law of gravity is so factual, so predictable that, as sure and certain as the sun will rise tomorrow morning and set in the evening, no matter what happens, when any object is thrown up, on this planet; Earth you can rest assured that it must fall down; The outcome is so predictable that it doesn’t really matter who you are, if you fall off the top of a 25 storey building, gravity will take you down. Like the law of gravity the Biblical principle of Giving has obvious predictable outcome(s). This principle of Giving and receiving is not a respecter of persons; it is not a respecter of  fasting, and it is not even a respecter of will and wish; it is so factual that if you obey what is contained in that scripture the outcome is almost as certain as the outcome of the law of gravity.

In Lk. 6:38 Jesus said “give and it shall be given unto you”. The first part of the direct correlation of that statement is that it assures that once you give, it is settled that you shall surely receive. But that is not the end of the story. There is an exponential relationship between giving and receiving; The scripture goes ahead to tell us, in that verse, that when it is your turn to receive you will get good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over. It follows inferentially therefore that the giver shall in return receive multiples of the dimension(s) he had given in the first place. The relationship between giving and receiving is so important that almighty God had to respect that law himself; He desired to receive several lost souls back unto himself in salvation and he had to give first. Jn 3:16 says that for God so loved that World that he GAVE his only begotten son that whosoever believeth in him should not perish but have everlasting life.

Most successful people of old were unrepentant givers; Abraham practically surrendered his son Isaac to God and ended up as the father of Nations, Jacob gave venison to his father Isaac and received awesome unlimited blessings; Solomon gave 1000 burnt offerings and received wisdom and awesome blessings from the Lord, the widow of Zarephat gave her last meal to the prophet and what she received in return was divine abundance (Gen.22, 27:25-29, 1 Kgs. 3:3-13, 1Kgs. 17).

Many have wondered why inspite of prayers, fasting, goodness, righteousness and holiness they have remained at their present levels of provision. Many have wondered why it looks as if their level of obedience to the word of God is far better than most but yet they have remained in poverty, deprivation, frustration and lack.

Friend I won’t deceive you; God will not break his law because of anybody; if you don’t give you will not receive. Period! Permit me to have a frank discussion with you at this moment; Yes you! I mean you the reader of this article. When was the last time you gave any form of gift to anybody? When was the last time you gave a gift to the needy, the poor and hungry mouth(s) in your neighborhood? When was the last time you gave gift to anybody in your local assembly, ministry, church, office etc? When was the last time you used your car to give assistance to anyone? If you understand Lk. 6:38 very well you will realize that when you give to people, the ultimate beneficiary is not the receiver, but you the giver. This is simply because the giver will get good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over.

Some wish that we would become as wealthy as some of the richest persons in our countries and perhaps on this planet. Some wish that we would be as rich as Bill Gates, Warren Buffet, Truett Cathy, Mike Adenuga etc. Yet you are very tight- fisted; When your environment, for instance,  is full of destitution and insolvency and people going through different levels of hunger and poverty you would rather look the other way, have a good laugh and  justify your indifference by blaming their situations on laziness and lack of seriousness. And yet you would want to be as rich as Warren Buffet? Give me a break!

Many of the wealthy and affluent, even when you think you are more righteous and churchy than they are, have a slightly better understanding of that very crucial portion of the scripture that is responsible for divine abundance and prosperity. They understand that the secret behind receiving is giving. So they go out of their way to seek avenues to give. In fact when some of them don’t see any obvious and open avenue to give they go ahead and create one: often times they call it ‘giving back to the society’, and you think they are stupid? No they are not. It really seems that there is something the wealthy and affluent is aware of that the poor and struggling find very difficult to figure out; In Prov 11:24-25 the Bible tells us that there is that scattereth and yet increaseth but there is that witholdeth more than is meet and it tendeth to poverty. It says the liberal soul shall be made fat and he that watereth shall himself also be watered. The natural tendency is that situations and circumstances will give one the erroneous mindset that when you scatter (give out) your resources diminish and you become poorer; people generally believe that when they give out what they have, their resources diminish and they tend to have much less. That is human logic. The logic of God is rather the opposite. It is a miracle that when you give out what you have as seed, it multiplies several fold and comes back to you in a much more bigger and better, exponential, dimension. This scripture is figuratively confirming to us what was stated earlier in Lk. 6:38.  Check this out: Bill and Melinda Gates run the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation where they are involved in giving out millions of dollars every year to charity; they give out millions of dollars every year to the poor and the Foundation is involved in giving out research grants for the development of vaccines against infirmities that ravage mostly the poor such as HIV/AIDS. In 2006 Warren Buffet pledged about $30B of his wealth to the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation to administer as a way to give back to the society. Mike Adenuga, through the Adenuga group employs thousands of people all over the world, pays wages that are at times far above industry averages and competition, just to make sure that people who would ordinarily, perhaps, have been poor and destitute, even with higher degrees could live good lives and contribute immensely to their families and the  society. I will not  forget that before glo mobile (one of Adenuga’s companies) came into operation in Nigeria, West Africa the Competition was reaping-off the poor  and the innocent  through the per minute billing. Mobile telephony consequently was the exclusive preserve and instrument of showmanship for the rich. But Adenuga and glo decided to help the poor, they indirectly gave millions of dollars equivalent to the poor through the introduction of the per second billing. For the greedy this would have been counted as loss. But that singular action made the poor and countless number of the less privileged in the society to have access to mobile communication even while saving a lot of money.

Many of these wealthy persons, even when you think you know the scripture more than them, understand the basic principle behind prosperity that it is only when you give that you will receive in good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over. Little wonder they remain on top. You wonder whether their wealth will ever finish? As long as they keep giving, I am sorry to disappoint you, they will keep receiving in exponential proportions.

If we truly desire to live in abundance we should stop being the most miserly of all of God’s creations on the planet. We should learn to ‘scatter so that we can also yet increase’. On Saturday Jul 9, 2011 I watched S. Truett Cathy founder of Chick Fill A (a fast food restaurant chain here in the United States) in an interview on CNN; ‘Your Money’. He said that the secret behind his success is faith in God and ability to give back to the society. You may not know Truett Cathy. But hear this; he is 90 years in age, the company he founded makes annual turnover of over 4 billion dollars. This same man says to us that the secret to been successful is to have faith in God and to use your earned resources to be of help to humanity and the needy. To Truett Cathy the secret of wealth is in sharing.

Some have often told me that the reason why they don’t give is because they don’t know who to give. The answer is simple. Give to fertile grounds; the genuinely needy in the society, the household of God and faith, men and women under whose authority you are, genuine courses that will further the divine purpose and existence of humanity and Christianity. Much more importantly be obedient to almighty God and his word and give as the Holy Spirit would lead you.

Don’t forget if you want to be as wealthy as some of the wealthiest on this planet, if you want material things and money to rather answer when you call, you must also be ready to do some of the things that the wealthy do, key of which is having a perfect understanding of a basic principle even in the scripture; Lk6:38. If you have difficulty in accepting this principle, then I pray for you that the Holy Spirit should grant you wisdom and understanding in Jesus name. I decree that in the mighty name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth let all tight-fisted hands be made lose now.

Henceforth make a decision to give.  Don’t forget; the liberal soul shall be made fat and he that watereth shall himself also be watered.

If you have not given your life to Christ please do so now for tomorrow might be too late.

God bless you.
